It's official: Skiing and snowboarding season in the Silver Valley is over. As of Easter Sunday, Silver Mountain is closed for the winter season.
But resort officials are already looking forward to the start of the summer season. Silver Mountain opens for mountain biking and hiking on June 19 and kicks off its summer concert series soon after.
The resort has announced four shows for this summer, though plans are in the works for a possible two more.
"We're looking at maybe doing something real special, maybe for the opening," said Silver Mountain marketing director Stephen Lane.
Concerts are held on top of the mountain in an outdoor amphitheater.
"It's probably the best place to see a show in the area," Lane said.
The series will include the Blues, Brews and Reggae Microbrew Festival on Saturday, July 31. Artists include Lloyd Jones, a modern day blues performer who has shared the stage with Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Etta James, Buddy Guy and more music legends. He describes his soulful and intelligent fusion of funk, blues and R&B as "storytelling with a Memphis groove."
Also featured at the Blues, Brews and Reggae Microbrew Festival are the Reggae Cowboys. They blend hillbilly with reggae roots, adding touches of blues, R & B, jazz and rock for an unusual eclectic sound.
REO Speedwagon will headline Saturday, Aug. 7. The classic rock band is famous for their 1985 number one single "Can't Fight This Feeling."

The Doobie Brothers play Silver Mountain Sunday, Aug. 22. Known for blues-based hits with lush vocal harmonies such as "China Grove," "Listen to the Music," "Long Train Runnin,'" and "Jesus is Just Alright," the '70s rock band promises an exciting live performance with skillful musicianship.
Tickets to all shows are available May 1 through Silver Mountain or Tickets West.
